A team of Scientologists took to the streets December 10 in support of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

French Scientologists took heed of the motto the United Nations selected for Human Rights Day—“My voice counts”—and the message of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: “Everyone has the right to be heard and to shape the decisions that affect their community.”

The Church of Scientology in Paris and the Paris Chapter of Youth for Human Rights International co-sponsored a human rights walk December 10 that forwarded the ideals and message of human rights with every step: Beginning in Paris at the Wall of Peace (Mur de la Paix) in the Champs de Mars, the march continued past the Eiffel Tower to the Trocadéro and the Esplanade of Human Rights, where, on December 10, 1948, in the Palais de Chaillot, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Their human rights walk was one of more than 60 that took place in 30 countries on Human Rights Day, when young men and women around the world walked through their towns and cities in a grassroots movement driven by members of Youth for Human Rights International.

The Church of Scientology supports United for Human Rights and its youth component, Youth for Human Rights. Scientologists on five continents engage in collaborative efforts with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations to bring about broad-scale awareness and implementation of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world’s premier human rights document.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream,” and the Scientology religion is based on the principles of human rights. The Code of a Scientologist calls on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves “to support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.”
