Fashion Designer Cynthia Lee Found Strength and Certainty in her Religion
Scientology helped fashion designer Cynthia Lee gain self-confidence and certainty. Her profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.Scientology.org .
In 1993, after yet another relationship ended badly, Cynthia Lee of Vancouver, BC, had to face it—there was something she didn’t understand. She needed to change, but she had no idea where to start.
That very afternoon, Lee met a Scientologist who asked her if she wanted to find out more about herself.
“I must have stared at him in shock for a full minute,” says Lee. “I couldn’t believe he said that. It was as if he read my mind.”
He had her take a personality test. The results revealed what she herself considered she needed to change. Courses at the local Scientology Mission gave her the tools to do so.
But it was several months later when Lee used Scientology to help another that she really became a Scientologist. She learned to administer Scientology assists—techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard that address the spiritual factors in illnesses, injuries and trauma.
“I gave an assist to a man who had a stomach ache. After a few minutes he looked at me and said ‘I feel better. It’s gone.’ I couldn’t believe it! I did that? I had never felt so elated,” says Lee. “That’s when I realized what Scientology really is—it’s about helping, and it works.”
One aspect of Scientology that Lee especially values is the people.
“They are tremendously supportive. They encourage you in your goals. They don’t put you down,” Lee says. “It is like a network of sanity. And you know what you can expect from the organization and individual Scientologists because we share a conviction in the importance of ethics and personal integrity.”
A native Canadian, Lee, 41, combines her love of fashion and entertainment by designing costumes for film, TV and live events. And the organizational skills she has learned in Scientology have helped her succeed.
Asked what she has gained from her religion, Lee’s answer is simple: “Scientology has given me a lot more certainty within myself.”
