Veterinarian Sharon McNeil
is Winning in the Game of Life
The future looks bright for Sharon McNeil—veterinary surgeon, Scientologist, wife and mother. Her profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.Scientology.org .
Veterinarian Sharon McNeil of Edinburgh, Scotland, is sure she has the perfect life.
“My job is what I always wanted to do,” she says. “As a child I was surrounded by cats, dogs, mice, guinea pigs—I had lots of pets, two and three at a time. My bedroom walls were plastered with posters of animals.”
Not only does she make her living doing what she loves, she also thrives on the challenges her work presents.
“Veterinary medicine is quite a technical subject,” says McNeil, 33. “The job is all about problem-solving, another thing I have always enjoyed. A cat or dog or rabbit is brought to you with something wrong, and of course they can’t tell you what is bothering them. You often have to draw on everything you have learned in school and your years of practice to locate the source of the difficulty in order to help them.”
But McNeil was not always so confident about dealing with the pressure. After all, the lives of these animals are in her hands.
“I used to find it very stressful,” says McNeil. “When I was first in practice I would panic a bit from time to time. Scientology really helped me with that aspect of the job.”
In fact, that was the reason McNeil first looked into Scientology. Wanting to cope better, she searched online for a personality test, found and took one on the Scientology website and was contacted by the Scientology Church in Edinburgh with the results.
“They recommended the Scientology Communication Course. I enrolled, and as soon as I began studying I calmed right down,” she says. “I was much more able to tolerate the kinds of urgent situations and sudden change that comes with this profession.”
As she continued her Scientology training and spiritual counseling, she became more stable, happier and began to enjoy the unexpected as she confidently dealt with whatever came her way, at work and in life.
It was also at the Scientology Church in Edinburgh that she met and fell in love with Colin McNeil, 37, a music producer and filmmaker. The couple were married in April 2009, and in January 2011 they welcomed their first child.
“Jacob is an amazing baby and it’s wonderful having this new being in our lives,” says McNeil.
And she is approaching this new responsibility with her typical cheerful attitude and self-confidence.
“I have to be one of luckiest people alive,” she says. “And thanks to Scientology, I have the tools to ensure I stay that way.”
