Forum Caps Scientology Drug Prevention Activities in Mexico
Throughout Mexico, Scientology volunteers observed United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with drug prevention activities.
Mexican Scientologists crowned the past year’s drug prevention activities June 26 with a United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking forum. Attended by law enforcement officers, educators and health care professionals, it was held at the National Scientology Organization of Mexico at Calle Balderas #27, Centro Histórico in Mexico City.
Forum attendees learned about the Truth About Drugs drug prevention initiative supported by the Church of Scientology. School safety officers and educators described how they use the Truth About Drugs educational materials and the changes in attitude of young people who complete the program.
In Tijuana, an educator trained in the Truth About Drugs materials marked United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by completing delivery of the entire curriculum to 700 students. She plans to continue the program with an entirely new group of students next term.
Scientologists also distributed tens of thousands of copies of The Truth About Drugs booklet throughout Mexico City and Guadalajara.
While Mexican Scientologists observed the day, hundreds of volunteers from Scientology Churches and Missions around the world were holding conferences, sports events, pledge drives and other activities to bring the message of United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to their communities.
For more than two and a half decades, Scientologists on five continents have been empowering others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.
The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
