Evangelical and Scientology Ministers Team Up to Combat Drugs

A drug education seminar was held for a team of Christian ministers at the Evangelical Christian Church on the Hill in Redlands, California, February 21. Rev. Edith Reuveni, President of the Church of Scientology Los Angeles, trained the ministers to conduct The Truth About Drugs drug education lessons to help young people in Riverside County and abroad live drug-free.

Pastor Daniel Sandoval hosted the daylong program. The training session introduced the drug education curriculum, which includes informational videos, a feature-length documentary and booklets on the most commonly abused drugs.

Attendees included Riverside County pastors and a local educator who will use this training to bring the curriculum to churches and community organizations throughout Guatemala. As a transit point for U.S.-bound drugs from South America, that country’s drug problems have escalated out of control.

The pastors are also eager to apply what they learned at home in Riverside County.

“The Inland Empire is rife with crystal meth,” said Rev. Sandoval. “It is the most ravaging of all drugs, as addictive as crack cocaine, but cheap and easy to access with so many meth labs in Riverside County. By ensuring our children have access to The Truth About Drugs curriculum, we are giving them the chance to make informed decisions when confronted with invitations to take drugs.”

The Church of Scientology sponsors the world's largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaign. When young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
