London played a key role in the development of the Scientology religion. As early as 1952, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard lived and worked in the city and carried out pivotal research, wrote books, and recorded lectures that stand as milestones in the development of the religion. Today, the Church carries forward L. Ron Hubbard’s legacy as a hub for humanitarian activity and a welcoming harbor for Londoners of all backgrounds and walks of life, and visitors from around the world.

This month, the Church and its parishioners celebrate the anniversary of the grand opening of their historic home in the heart of the City of London. Built in 1866 as the British and Foreign Bible Society, the Church restored the stately six-story building to its Victorian splendor. And when Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige dedicated their new home in October 2006, it signaled the start of a new era for the Church.

The fast-paced half-hour episode of Destination: Scientology—London captures the spirit of one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities and gives viewers insight into how the Church not only services Scientologists in their ascent to spiritual freedom, it also serves as a home for the entire community—a meeting ground of cooperative effort to uplift people of all cultures and denominations.
