Painter Ross Munro:
Life Itself Can Be a Masterpiece

Scientologist and painter Ross Munro of North Vancouver, British Columbia, is an artist to be reckoned with.  But perhaps his greatest work of art is the life he creates for himself and others.  His profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.Scientology.org.

As though he dips his brush in magic, the watercolors and acrylics of Ross Munro transports us to a world where mist, cloud and sun bathe land and sea in tranquility and peace.

In his video on www.Scientology.org, Munro—who specializes in watermedia and teaches painting in his studio in Deep Cove, British Columbia—gives visitors a glimpse into his life.

Experimentation with drugs in the late 1960s took a toll on Munro’s life and work.  He found they lowered his awareness and deadened his aesthetic sense.

“I was ready for change,” says Munro.  “In 1971 I happened to walk by the Church of Scientology Mission in Vancouver.  Curious, I went inside.”

Munro enrolled on the Communication Course.

“By improving my ability to communicate I came to understand life entirely differently,” he says. “It changed the way I related to people. I had been terribly shy and didn’t really want to talk to anyone. And all these years later, communication and my relationships with others are still what I treasure most.”

The course had an additional benefit he hadn’t expected.

I’d actually quit using drugs a month earlier, and because of the Communication Course, I was able to stay off,” says Munro.

Happily married, Munro, 62, and wife Sharman, who helps him manage his studio, are proud parents of three and grandparents of one.

“I’ve gone where I want in my life,” says Munro.  “I’m comfortable with people and I connect with them. I do what I want to do and I’m the person running my life.”
