Youth for Human Rights, a program supported by the Church of Scientology, is bringing human rights awareness to Nepal.

Motivated by the May 2012 findings of the U.S. State Department Human Rights Report, over the past year Youth for Human Rights Nepal has introduced human rights education to Nepalese security forces.

The State Department report stated the country’s “most significant human rights problem were abuses committed by the security forces (including members of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force).”

To go to the heart of the problem, Youth for Human Rights (YHR) conducted human rights education for some 650 officers of the Armed Police Force, a semi-military Nepalese police force that is responsible for law and order, counterterrorism, border security, hostage rescue, vital installation security, VIP security, riot control, industrial security and disaster relief. YHR is now providing human rights educational materials to all 35,000 members of the force.

Introduced to the country through the first Youth for Human Rights International World Educational Tour in 2004, Youth for Human Rights Nepal also conducts human rights education in schools, stages human rights walks, and works with other NGOs to raise awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
