Architect Building a Drug-Free Future for Israeli Youth

Center of Scientology for Tel Aviv hosts drug prevention seminar to help youth make informed decisions to live drug free.

The 40 high school students and their teachers who attended a three-hour seminar at the Center of Scientology for Tel Aviv last week came away with a conviction to leave harmful substances alone.

The seminar was presented by Ayelet Mallis Cohen, an architect and interior designer who also coordinates the Truth About Drugs education and prevention program the Center supports.

Since the Center of Scientology for Tel Aviv opened in spacious new quarters in August 2012, its facilities for outreach activities, seminars and community programs have enabled the Truth About Drugs to take on entirely new dimensions.

The high school students attending the seminar last week watched drug prevention public service announcements and The Truth About Drugs—Real People, Real Stories documentary, and each took home a boxed set of the 13 Truth About Drugs educational booklets.

Cohen reaches out to Jewish, Arab and Druze leaders to provide the many varied communities in Israel with the facts that will help youth avoid alcohol and drug dependency.

“We are succeeding in changing children’s minds about drugs and alcohol. This has given the teachers and educators we work with new hope,” says Cohen. “I really want to reduce drug and alcohol use in Israel and in the Middle East. These substances hurt society from the inside. This is my purpose and what I am going to make happen. We have to act fast.”

The Church of Scientology has published Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, a brochure to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative the Church supports. Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”

The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
