Volunteers from the Church of Scientology Mission of Costa Rica promote human rights awareness.

It was an all-day affair with volunteers from the Church of Scientology Mission of Costa Rica celebrating Human Rights Day 2013 with a human rights petition drive.

To help raise awareness of human rights, the volunteers use educational booklets and posters created by Youth for Human Rights, a human rights education initiative supported by the Church of Scientology.

This year’s Human Rights Day marked the 65th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948. Volunteers set up a booth and helped visitors gain an understanding of their 30 basic rights, and how these rights apply to them and their friends and families.

Scientologists on five continents engage in collaborative efforts with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations to bring about broad-scale awareness and implementation of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world’s premier human rights document.

The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—United for Human Rights, Making Human Rights a Global Reality, to meet requests for more information about the human rights education and awareness initiative the Church supports. Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream,” and the Scientology religion is based on the principles of human rights. The Code of a Scientologist calls on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves “to support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.”
