In a November 2012 interview, Viktor Ivanov, Head of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service, said that more than 100,000 people aged 15-35 died of drug abuse in Russia in 2011. An estimated 1.8 million Russian users inject drugs—the highest of any nation in the world. According to a United Nations study, Russia has the world’s highest per capita heroin use. And the majority of drug addicts are 16-30 years old.

Hundreds of young men and women in the town of Semyenov in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia learned the truth about drugs September 15, when a team of Scientologists was invited to bring their drug education and prevention initiative to a local youth festival. The festival was held to encourage youth to develop good habits that will help them in life.

Volunteers from the Church of Scientology conducted a seminar in June for 50 airport firefighters (bomberos aeronauticos) working at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas, Venezuela, part of an overall initiative to train personnel and security staff of the airport on The Way to Happiness, a nonreligious commonsense moral code written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.
