“It makes me feel whole, there is a piece of me now that was missing and when I had the idea to start a mission here it really came out of having been raised in a community that was diverse. And when you move to California, you don’t really have that neighborhood feeling. I didn’t even know my neighbors until there was an earthquake. And the only reason you know them then, is because they feel an obligation to knock on your door and go, “Are you okay?” reluctantly. But I didn’t grow up that way. I grew up in a community like this. So for me this is a piece of my heart.”
